There's an old Solaris movie as well, from 1972. I've only seen it once, and it was quite long ago so I can't really say anything about it... gotta see it again soon. Anyhow, I think that this 2002 version directed by Steven Soderbergh is fantastic.

One of the very few movies that I own on DVD. A thoughtful movie with an equally inspiring soundtrack. The music gets a lot of plays on my night-time drives to/from the observatory.

Hi David,
I agree, this one's very thoughtful. I really like the sci-fi genre, but I think there's a lack of good sci-fi movies. It seems to be difficult to make something really convincing out of it. Solaris is one of few that is successful in doing that.
