A tour in the gyrocopter

August 24, 2009, 22:04

About a month ago or so, I had the chance to take a ride in a gyrocopter. It was quite the experience, sitting in an open aircraft like that, a couple of hundred metres above the ground :-) The flight took place in Skåne, southern Sweden, starting out over the flat rural landscape, then passing by over the cities Malmö and Lund.

The Great Void

July 21, 2009, 17:51

The video above is from the game Audiosurf. I haven't tried it myself but it looks rather cool. Apparently you can load music tracks into it, and the race track is generated from the music. The clip above features my ambient track The Great Void.

The Great Void is taken from my album The Edge of a Fairytale. The album recently got a new review, written by Chuck Van Zyl at Star's End.

Creating music as Between Interval began as a way for Stefan Strand to take a break from his more kinetic musical pursuits. The Edge of a Fairytale (62'41") is his fourth CD of futuristic mindscapes. Realized using a fascinating palette of synthesized and sampled sounds, this album presents 11 works meant to occupy the mind of the listener with distinctive and evocative atmospherics.

Inspiration June 2009

I've been a fan of the Silent Hill video game series since I first played Silent Hill 2 for the PS2 some years back. The gameplay itself wasn't that fantastic, but the setting, the atmosphere, the soundtrack and the deeply psychological and tragic storyline made it all worthwhile. A Silent Hill movie came out a couple of years ago as well. While the pictures and music was spot on, unfortunately it lacked the depth that makes me appreciate the games so much.

I recently got a hold of Silent Hill Origins, which I'm trying to play through at the moment whenever I find time. The intro track is quite amazing if you ask me.

Here's another great track from Silent Hill 3, also featured in the movie:

More Fairytale-reviews...

I cannot precisely define what it is that makes Between Interval’s brand of ambient music so special, but I can emphatically state that he is one of my favorite artists in the genre today.

- Phil Derby, Electroambient Space

Opening track ‘Delta Capricorni’ offers a pretty good indication as to to the sorts of deep ambient atmospheres to be found amongst the eleven tracks here, opening proceedings with sorts of vast synth pads, harmonic sweeps and deep, ominous bass drones you’d associate with Tangerine Dream or ‘Baraka’s Michael Stearns – indeed, it’s practically begging to be accompanied with some time-lapse video footage of desert clouds.

- Chris Downton, Cyclic Defrost

And this is my favourite one:

This album was barely audible background music. Those in the office either didn't realize there was "music" (I use the term loosely) playing or were so annoyed that they tried to stab out their eyes. (Okay, no stabbing took place, but they sure complained a hell of a lot about it. Babies.)

- The Stereo, Chart Attack
